Request for Support (Service Providers)

As you may know Saje Scotland is at risk of closure due to lack of funding. We are writing to you to ask for your help. We are going to run out of funding by 1st of May 2022.

Over the last 7 years, we’ve directly supported over 14,000 women and girls. We get no government funding. We’ve had very little funding from Fife council, and nothing directly from the NHS. We’ve had to rely on funding from charitable trusts and foundations, and donations from individuals. We are constantly applying to every fund we are eligible for and explore all avenues of funding. We currently have a Crowdfunder open and even commissioned our own book, which we sell on several different platforms. We need statutory (government/core) funding to continue to provide our vital service to women across Scotland.

If you have referred to our services for women you work with, we are asking if you would send a letter of support to your MP, MSP, local councillors and/or your managers to describe any positive impacts for women you referred, and emphasise any financial and/or resource savings made for your service.

You can use the website They Work for You to find the contact details of your local MP and MSPs. If you live in Fife you can find your local councillors here. If you live elsewhere you can search on your local authority website.

We’ve enclosed a sample letter to base yours on. However, if you’d like to write something in your own words, that’d be appreciated.

Please feel free to highlight our plight on your social media platforms. We thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,

Saje Scotland

Sample Letter:

Dear…

Saje Scotland is a Scottish charity supporting women and girls who’ve been subjected to domestic abuse. They receive no government funding. They’ve had very little funding from Fife council, and nothing directly from the NHS, and have had to rely on funding from charitable trusts and foundations, and donations from individuals. Yet, over the last 7 years, they’ve directly supported over 14,000 women and girls. Indeed, there are already over 100 women signed up to start their programmes in January 2022.

I write to you to tell you that Saje Scotland has made a difference to my service users… {insert how Saje helped your service users}.

Saje is constantly applying to eligible trusts and funds, and continues to explore all avenues of funding. They currently have a Crowdfunder open and they even commissioned their own book, which sells on several different platforms. Saje Scotland needs statutory (government/core) funding to continue supporting women and girls subjected to domestic abuse with their vital service.

Regards,

{your name and organisation}
