We are devastated to announce the closure of Saje Scotland. Our doors will close on the 31st of August 2022. Since 2014, the charity has provided vital support for women and girls subjected to domestic abuse, enabling them to fully recover and move forward positively and safely with their lives. Over 15,000 women and girls have been empowered by Saje to reach their own potential and live independently without fear of abuse, harm and coercion. Throughout our time, we have also worked with schools and many local organisations to raise awareness and change societal attitudes and stigmas about domestic abuse. We are incredibly grateful to all of the wonderful trusts, foundation, and donors who supported us this far. However, despite our very best efforts, we were unable to secure long-term, statutory funding; this was, ultimately, what we needed to continue. We do not underestimate the concern that the closure may cause those who use our service. We will fulfil our final term of groups – ending in November – in a voluntary capacity. Sadly, we cannot take any further referrals. We would like to thank everyone involved in the charity. We have been supported and inspired by so many fantastic volunteers, who’ve been the heartbeat of the organisation, and we simply could not have done it without them. So many have given up their time and offered their expertise to help Saje along the way. Congratulations to the organisations who were successful with their applications to The Scottish Government Victim-Centred Approach Fund (VCAF). Once again, however, The Scottish Government has decided to reject our application for funding. Despite helping close to 15,000 women and girls who’ve been victims of domestic abuse, we have still not been awarded statutory funding. For 10 years, Saje has offered a different and distinctive way of supporting female victims of domestic abuse, by helping them understand the violence, trauma, and abuse they’ve been subjected to. We strive to empower women and girls to live safer, fulfilled lives. Our focus and commitment have always been concentrated on ensuring women and girls affected by domestic abuse are fully supported on their journey to recovery. Driven by an inclusive referral process, we aimed to change the culture surrounding domestic abuse. Our service is, and always has been, free to any women or referring organisation. Sadly, as a result of this latest funding decision, we are now facing the closure of Saje Scotland in July this year. As you may know Saje Scotland is at risk of closure due to lack of funding. We are writing to you to ask for your help. We are going to run out of funding by 1st of May 2022. Over the last 7 years, we’ve directly supported over 14,000 women and girls. We get no government funding. We’ve had very little funding from Fife council, and nothing directly from the NHS. We’ve had to rely on funding from charitable trusts and foundations, and donations from individuals. We are constantly applying to every fund we are eligible for and explore all avenues of funding. We currently have a Crowdfunder open and even commissioned our own book, which we sell on several different platforms. We need statutory (government/core) funding to continue to provide our vital service to women across Scotland. If you have referred to our services for women you work with, we are asking if you would send a letter of support to your MP, MSP, local councillors and/or your managers to describe any positive impacts for women you referred, and emphasise any financial and/or resource savings made for your service. The Delivering Equally Safe (DES) Fund is strategy designed to help prevent and eradicate violence against women and girls, developed by the Scottish Government. Around £30,000,000 has been distributed to approximately 58 organisations across Scotland. Unfortunately, the Scottish Government decided to reject our application to the Equally Safe Fund. We’ve directly supported 11,645 women & girls since 2014, and haven’t received any funding from the Scottish Government or statutory bodies. Our DES application was for core funding which would have sustained us for over 2 years. We felt confident in our application and that it was strong. So much hard work went into putting forth Saje’s case for funding. We are so grateful for the funding and support of all the wonderful trusts and foundations that believe in Saje’s part in eradicating violence against women and girls. Their support has been absolutely crucial. Currently, we have enough funding from trusts until March 2022. We have devised a new funding plan, and have identified as many trusts as possible who have funding criteria we align with. Our wee team will continue to work tirelessly to secure funding so women and girls who’ve been subjected to domestic abuse, can continue to access our programmes and other support. Over the last 7 years, so many women who’ve come through Saje have said our services and support have empowered them to change their lives. Saje has been crucial for 1000s of women in Scotland. We’d greatly appreciate anyone out there who can help us keep Saje alive, so we can continue to support women and girls across Scotland. ...
